Today on Throwback Thursday, we are taking our time to appreciate RnB sensation Styl-Plus, the boy-band group whose music rocked the air waves years ago.
The founding members of Styl-Plus (originally STYL) were Shifi Emoefe, Tunde Akinsanmi, Yemi Akinwonmi, and Lanre Faneyi. The name STYL being an abbreviation of the founders’ first names.
Sadly, Lanre Faneyi passed in 1998, and Zeal Onyecheme joined the group. The group was renamed Styl-Plus, the “Plus” means the new addition to the group.
In 2002 Yemi Akinwonmi left the group and the musical band became a trio without adding a new member.

In February 2006, they released their highly anticipated 11 track debut album “Expressions”.
In August 2012, the group released “Alive” featuring rapper, Sunky. Their singles “Olufunmi” and “Runaway” were amongst the most requested love songs on all the major Nigerian RnB radio stations between 2004 and 2005.
“Imagine That” a single from their official debut album, “Expressions” was also a major hit. It was the favourite song in numerous shows, including the pioneer edition of Big Brother Nigeria.
Other songs like “Four years” and ” Iya Basira” were campus hits at the time of their release. Most graduating students still play “Four Years” during their send-off party.
Styl-Plus is our own version of America Boys 11 Men and we can’t talk of Nigerian love songs without remembering them.
