Gionee has launched the K6 in China in a bid to force its way back into the global smartphone market scene. This mid-range device boasts impressive specifications that you would see in this article.
Before we look at the Gionee K6, let us quickly refresh our memory on why its return sparks interest among tech enthusiasts.
When Gionee had started making phones in 2002. It had been one of the largest phone manufacturers in China. By 2012, the company had spread its tentacles into other countries in Asia and also into Nigeria as well. Everything seemed to be going fine until 2018 when Karbonn Mobiles bought it.
By November 2018, Gionee chairman, Liu Lirong was said to have lost over $144 million in gambling at a casino. What followed was the company being declared bankrupt in December 2018. Since then, the company had struggled to return to popularity. While it has been releasing phones since then, things are not as they were before.

Now, following its F9, Gionee has unveiled the K6 and it comes with MediaTek’s Helio P60 chipset. Many may be discouraged by this processor because it was launched as far back as February 2018. However, Gionee K6 makes up for this by bringing large storage capacities. One edition of the K6 uses 6 GB RAM while the other uses 8 GB RAM. Also, they have 128/256 GB expandable storage.
The display measures 6.2inches and promises HD+ resolution with a waterdrop notch that houses its 13 MP selfie shooter. The main rear camera has a 16 MP sensor, while there are two other supporting sensors. There are no details on the specifications of these likely smaller cameras.
Gionee K6 comes with a large battery that has 4,350 mAh capacity. Its charger can only speed up to about 10W which is discouraging as most midrange phones now come equipped with 18W charging abilities.
The major turn off for many will be that the smartphone launches with Android 7.1 which dates back to three years. This is understandable when you consider that it is priced between $112 (NGN43,681) to $155 (NGN60,451). It is expected to be available for sale on 3rd August 2020.
