TikTok already has more than a billion users on its platform. Now, it appears to be experimenting on ways for it and its users to monetize their audiences on the app. Recently, TikTok began a limited test of a feature that lets users add links to their bios and posts, which will direct audiences to products or services.

Marketer, Fabian Bern, posted a video showing off how the social commerce URL feature in videos will work. With a shoppable short-form video where clicking inside the video will redirect you to the product shown, for users to buy. It looks like this allows audiences to purchase products featured in videos directly from the videos themselves.

Influencers make their money from their audiences, and TikTok is making that process more seamless. This almost certainly means that those power users are going to see and use the service differently. But at the moment, the only way to make money on TikTok is through brand deals off the platform.

A Sign of TikTok Ambition

That TikTok is getting into the money-making game is a sign of its serious ambitions, at least in the US, where these tests have been rolling out. If it becomes super easy to make money on TikTok, we will likely witness more creators flocking toward the site. Which is a good thing, because Vine (a would-be competitor) is dead.

A spokesperson of the company had confirmed it is testing the feature, saying “we’re always experimenting with new ways to improve the app experience for our users.”

Competitor, Instagram already allows users to add a link to their bios and offers a ‘Swipe Up’ feature to influencers. This new TikTok feature that is being tested may also be limited to influencers only. However, this is just speculation and is not yet confirmed.

This new update will prove to be very useful and handy for influencers (and brands), whenever it launches.
