Microsoft says its staff is virtually training thousands of people in transforming their remote working environments.

So far, over 2,000 Microsoft Store employees are working remotely to serve customers as part of the company’s Emergency Remote Operations plan, according to a blog post by the tech giant.

Scott Pearson, enterprise business development manager for Microsoft Store said:

“Microsoft’s mission, which is at the forefront of why we operate Stores, is to empower every person and organization on the planet to achieve more.

The global disruption has led to a broader platform to live out that mission in the face of a crisis. We’ve got energetic, excited folks with expertise helping businesses and organizations work remotely and transform quickly.”

Microsoft claims that its retail employees have virtually trained 65,000 people on using Microsoft Teams. These people work across varying industries like government, health care, education and finance.

The demand for the training program, known as Customer Success Trainings, has surged among its customers. This is as many seek to transform their remote work environments using the collaboration tool.

Some of the firms involved include Cleveland Clinic,  Ernst & Young and transportation, and the Canadian National Railway.

Microsoft adds that the remote customer support program is optional for employees. Not all of its workers are also able to participate due to domestic demands.

However, Microsoft corporate vice president of stores, David Porter, in a LinkedIn post says 80 percent of eligible workers signed up.

Porter wrote in the post that Microsoft was “providing regular pay for [the] retail team members, regardless of hours worked during this time.” Employees who participate in the program will also get a weekly bonus in addition.

Microsoft stores cater to over 2 billion customers from 190 locations around the world. The figure accounts for both physical and online numbers.
