At about 10 AM on Christmas day, some Apple users reported experiencing difficulty setting up and signing in to iCloud, now the issue appears to have been solved after about 36 hours. Apple’s system status page was showing “some users affected” during the period.

Now the company marks the iCloud Account & Sign In section of its status page with a “Resolved Issue” marker. The system status page didn’t show any issues with other parts of iCloud or other Apple services. The issue appeared to have affected multiple Apple devices.

Apple Support posted a tweet on 25th December that it was aware of the issue.

The support team told a user that it was “experiencing a high capacity at this time, which is impacting your ability to set up iCloud, please try back in a couple of hours”. The user was trying to set up their mother’s new iPad and HomePod mini.

Apple said hasn’t said the reason for the service outage. However, we can be certain that more details will be available in time.
