Why You May Be Experiencing Difficulty Setting Up iCloud This Christmas

Some Apple users have experienced difficulty setting up and signing in to iCloud. As of Saturday 26th, December 2020 Apple’s system status page was showing “some users affected” by an issue that began at around 10:45 AM WAT on Christmas day.

“Users may be experiencing a problem with this service,” the status update read. The issue appears to not be affecting multiple devices. The system status page also doesn’t show any issues with any other parts of iCloud or other Apple services.

Apple Support had posted a tweet on the afternoon of 25th December that it was aware of the issue. It also said that it was “experiencing a high capacity at this time, which is impacting your ability to set up iCloud, please try back in a couple of hours.” The tweet was in response to a user experiencing difficulty setting up their mom’s new iPad and HomePod mini.

Apple support also told another user that they were looking into the issue after he tweeted his difficulty setting up his iCloud account.
