Three basic steps to troubleshoot your Windows PC for audio problems

If you encounter audio problems on your Windows PC during a virtual meeting, the problem may not be that the other person is on mute. Of course, there are times when we forget to unmute ourselves.

However, if you have asked the other person to unmute via wild hand signals and they show that they are not on mute, you may need to look inward. It could be time to try these troubleshooting tips from Microsoft itself.

Step 1

Navigate your cursor to the search bar at the bottom left of your screen, then search for “audio troubleshooter”.

Step 2

From the list of options that show up in the search results, select “Find and fix problems playing sound”.

Step 3

After this, select “Next” from the tab that shows and choose the device you want to troubleshoot.

If you have carried out the basic steps to troubleshoot your Windows PC for audio problems listed above and the problem persists. You may have to do more.

First, you should check your speaker output, especially if you are using another gadget. Ensure that buds or earphones connect properly. You should also check your PC speaker to ensure that you didn’t mute your device, something is not blocking it or it has been damaged.

Also, after checking sound settings and verifying that it is fine, you need to verify that the latest Windows Updates have been installed.

You can also try fixing audio drivers, although, this is a technical step and you can see a full guide here. In addition, restarting the Audio Services could work as well as turning off audio enhancements as some apps don’t work well with it turned on.

If the issue persists, you may need to talk to a Microsoft-certified technician.
