Rockstar the creators of GTA say the next Grand Theft Auto is currently in the works. Rockstar Games has this to say “We are pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway” on its website post.

While that is coming soon, Rockstar announced that GTAV’s current generation patches will hit Xbox Series X and, alongside the PS5 on March 15th. The game has seen fewer updates since its original release in 2013.

Rockstar says its current generation version will have “new graphics modes with up to 4K resolution, up to 60 frames per second, texture and draw distance upgrades, HDR options and ray-tracing… faster loading times, immersive 3D audio, platform-specific features like advanced haptic feedback, and much more.”

That is over eight years since it made its debut on the PS3 and Xbox 360 of the GTAV’s series. GTAV was released long after 5 years with 2008’s GTAIV, leaving room for a fresh sequel for gamers.

The patches to the GTAV and Grand Theft Auto Online should provide some excitement to gamers for now. “With the unprecedented longevity of GTAV, we know many of you have been asking us about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series,” Rockstar said.

There’s no detail on the naming scheme for the entry-level series, but it may be the GTAVI. This follows the current naming scheme since 2008. The current generation version was supposed to launch last year in November but was pushed forward to March 2022.
