Gaming: Nvidia Shield Is Getting Android 11 And Other Firmware Updates

The Nvidia Shield set-up box is getting Android 11 and other firmware updates according to Nvidia’s blogpost. This new software update is known as the Shield Software Experience Upgrade 9.0 and will be rolling out soon.

Surprisingly, this update will be available on all Shield set-top boxes, including the first model launched in 2015. This model ran on Android 5.0 Lollipop, an upgrade to Android 11 is huge given that other smartphones don’t get such gestures.

Some other changes in this update include a newer Google Gboard keyboard used on default making it easier for text entry. There is now support for Bluetooth aptX, and the shield automatically disconnects Bluetooth devices when it goes to sleep. Nvidia’s GeForce Now app is now available to LG customers to allow gamers to stream PC games to their TVs. The TV app will be available in beta mode in some LG TVs according to LG.

Sadly, only a certain category of its LG TVs will be able to stream GeForce Now PC games. This includes the 2021 LG 4K OLED, NanoCell and QNED Mini LED TVs in select 80 markets.

Nvidia cloud gaming has around 35 free to play games available on GeForce Now. Its latest LG webOS app will play games with a maximum capacity of 60fps and 1080p resolution. Other 2021 premium LG Tvs would already have Dolby Vision. These include the QNED Mini LED QNED99 series, NanoCell 99 series TVs, and OLED Z1 series according to a report from Digitial Trends.

LG is the first TV manufacturer to develop a Smart TV app of GeForce NOW. The cloud gaming app can be accessed through the LG Content Store. Nvidia shield when compared to another android compatible launched in 2015  will be getting Android 11.
