Netflix rolled out a new feature on Monday called Profile Transfer that lets users do exactly that: move their profile.

If you are a big Netflix addict like me, you know how valuable a profile is and it is likely the worst part of a breakup, when your significant other kicks you out of their account by changing the password. Your profile typically comes with personalised recommendations, viewing history, and so on.

Starting Netflix from the beginning is such a painful thing. However, the new feature means that this would not be your fate in the event that your lover, parent, sibling, or friend, decides that it is time for you to get your own account.

Also, you should not forget that it is a way for Netflix to prepare you for when it eventually stops allowing unchecked password sharing. The streaming company has said that there are at least 100 million households using its service through shared accounts. This number could really go a long way in restoring its investors faith and the company is doing all it can to ensure that it does.

So, when you are ready for your own account, the Profile Transfer feature assists you in moving your entire history to your new profile. According to The Verge, Netflix has been testing the feature since March in Chile, Costa Rica, and Peru.

With Netflix Profile Transfer now live for users, it is only a matter of time until the platform starts charging extra for sharing passwords and adding extra users.
