Microsoft is introducing a new streamlined Windows 10 Start menu design. The software company had touted the new design since early 2020 and now it is currently available for Windows 10 testers.

“We are freshening up the Start menu with a more streamlined design that removes the solid color backplates behind the logos in the apps list and applies a uniform, partially transparent background to the tiles,” Microsoft said in a blog post.

With the changes, the reduction in the colour of the blocky tiled interface on the Start menu will make it easier to scan for the apps you use on a daily basis. Although it is a small change, however, it makes the Start menu look more organised.

Microsoft is also introducing some big changes to Alt-Tab in the latest Windows 10 build.

“Beginning with today’s build, all tabs open in Microsoft Edge will start appearing in Alt-Tab, not just the active one in each browser window,” Microsoft said. However, Microsoft will allow users to switch back to the classic Alt-Tab setting if they find the new update confusing.

In the new Windows 10 build, the Xbox app will now be pinned for Xbox Live users. Microsoft will also pin Your Phone for Android users, making them more personal. However, only new accounts created or the first login on a PC will get the changes. All existing taskbar layouts will not have the changes.

As for notifications, The new Windows 10 build will get an X at the top right corner. This will allow users to quickly dismiss unimportant notifications as they come.

Microsoft also says that it is improving its Settings app in Windows 10.  The company promises, “there will be more improvements coming that will further bring Settings closer to Control Panel.” Some links will now direct users to the About page in Settings instead of redirecting to the system part of the legacy Control Panel system page.
