A few years ago, we learnt that Ramsey Nouah was working on a sequel to a Nollywood classic, “Living In Bondage”. This will serve as his directorial debut. Now, we finally have a teaser and a release date for “Living In Bondage: Breaking Free”, and it looks intriguing.
The 1992 original film was directed by Chris Obi Rapu and follows the story of Andy (Kenneth Okonkwo), a man who joins a secret cult, kills his wife, Merit (Nnenna Nwabueze) in a ritual sacrifice, gains enormous wealth as a reward, and is then haunted by his dead wife’s ghost.
Speaking with Pulse about the sequel, Ramsey Nouah said:
“We’re trying to catch the demography of today who go to the cinema [and those who] have not seen the original movie. So we were trying to kind of blend it.”
From the recently released teaser, we can see that some of the film’s original cast, including Kanayo O. Kanayo, Bob Manuel Udokwu, Kenneth Okonkwo will be returning, with the addition of Enyinna Nwigwe, Alexx Ekubo, and Ramsey Nouah.
The teaser doesn’t give much away, in terms of the sequel’s storyline. However, we can tell that the premise of the original story remains.
We can’t wait to see how the new producers will interpret this legendary film for the modern-day audience. The film will hit theatres on 8th November.
