1. Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw

Okay, the sound effects are ‘crunch’ ‘crunch’ crunchy!’ If you’re looking for a way out of not spending on a 4D movie, you can bet your Naira that you will get all you need from a 3D visual. The sound effect is epic – even from the trailer. If that’s not enough to convince you then the sexiest man alive, Idris Elba and the other s*xiest man alive, Dwayne Johnson are in this sequel. Also starring is Jason Statham with his wicked humour. Is your heart racing already because there will be a lot of car crashes too. Camera… Action!

Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw is all about two of the franchise’s biggest personalities, Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) and Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham). It takes Dwayne Johnson’s character from the franchise into a spinoff. He’s now merged with Jason Statham for a buddy-cop action flick. They are forced to work together after Shaw’s younger sister, Hattie (Vanessa Kirby), steals a precious item from a notorious, cyber-genetically enhanced criminal named Brixton (Idris Elba).

This would be no regular action movie so you better be prepared to have your heart racing while you laugh your head off.

2. Dora and the Lost City of Gold

If you are conversant with the Disney Junior’s animated series ‘Dora the Explorer’, then you would wonder how a movie is possible. Dora and the Lost City of Gold is a live-action film adaptation of the popular animated series. Should they have bothered with the movie? Yes! Yes! and more Yes (s). It’s for a younger audience, and if you’re older no one’s judging. Sneak into the cinema hall glued to a child like you’re doing this for them. No one would be the wiser as you explore the live-action film of Dora and the Lost City of Gold.

In the movie, the adventure high girl now has to go through High School – Imagine that. However, adventure finds its way to her. She quickly leads Boots (her best friend, a monkey), Diego (Jeffrey Wahlberg), a mysterious jungle inhabitant (Eugenio Derbez), and a ragtag group of teens on a live-action adventure to save her parents (Eva Longoria, Michael Peña) and solve the impossible mystery behind a lost city of gold.

3. Overcomer

Get your handkerchief ready and we’re not kidding. There’s no way you can watch this movie without crying if the trailer does the same thing. It’s not surprising because it is from the creators of War room, Courageous, and Fire Proof.

Overcomer is the story of a girl named Hannah Scott who impacts the lives of others in more ways than one. The amazing thing is her journey makes others believe. Overcomer begins when a high school basketball coach John Harrison and his team face an uncertain future. This occurs after their town’s largest manufacturing plant shuts down unexpectedly. While others move away, he reluctantly agrees to stay back and coach cross-country, a sport he hates. Then he meets Hannah Scott, an unlikely runner who changes his view on life. What happens next is amazing.

4. Where’d You Go, Bernadette

Smile, that’s what you’d do after watching this. It’s a sweet story about passion, dreams, and chasing all of it. Imagine loving something so much and having to stop for some reason. There’s a lot you can do to whirl away time but you possibly can’t get over that dream. It would nag you so much and you would feel unfulfilled. That’s the role dramedy stars Cate Blanchett played in Where’d You Go, Bernadette.

The movie is based on the novel of the same name. It’s about a miserable mother who suddenly goes missing. This prompts her teen daughter to figure out what happened.

5. The Angry Birds Movie 2

6 minutes long, that’s how long this trailer is – but worth it. It is worth every chuckle, giggle, and sneaky snort from your nose.

In Angry Birds 2, there’s a strange twist. Red, Chuck, Bomb and the rest of their feathered friends are surprised when a green pig suggests that they put aside their differences and unite to fight a common threat. Birds and pigs then collaborate to infiltrate the island. 2016’s The Angry Birds Movie did a good job but this 2019 sequel seems to be better.
