Here’s Why Xiaomi Won’t Ship Its Mi 11 Smartphone With A Charger
Xiaomi will not ship its soon to come Mi 11 smartphone with a charger, despite mocking Apple for making the same decision. Lei Jun, CEO of the Chinese phone maker confirmed this on Chinese social media site, Weibo, citing environmental concerns.
Xiaomi had poked fun at Apple a few months ago along with other phone makers; for not including chargers with the iPhone 12.
Jun said people have many chargers which creates a burden on the environment. He said that is the reason Xiaomi was canceling the charger for the Mi 11.

“Xiaomi Mi 11 is officially unveiled with brand new packaging, so light and thin. Behind the thinness, we made an important decision: in response to the call of technology and environmental protection, Xiaomi 11 canceled the random charger. Today everyone has a lot of idle chargers, which is both your trouble and the burden of the environment. We are well aware that this decision may not be understood or even complained,” Jun said in Chinese.
Like Xiaomi, Samsung too reminded customers in an ad that charging bricks were “included with your Galaxy”. The company has deleted the ad amid rumours that it won’t include a charger with the soon to come Galaxy S21 phones.
Xiaomi had tweeted that it “didn’t leave anything out of the box” with a short video clip showing a Mi 10T box with a charger inside.

There’s a real possibility that we will see more smartphones ship without their chargers. And they have a point, the decision has strong environmental merit.
The Xiaomi Mi 11 phone is to launch on 28th December 2020; and will be the first to be powered by the Snapdragon 888 mobile platform.
