Snoring is a quite common condition so if you snore in your sleep, don’t worry you’re not alone. Snoring occurs when air flows through your throat when you breathe in your sleep. When this happens, the relaxed tissues in your throat vibrate and produce harsh, nerve-grating sounds.snoring

It can also be a sign of the following conditions

  • Obesity
  • Obstructive sleep apnea
  • Sleep deprivation.
  • Problem with the structure of your mouth, nose, or throat

Snoring can be remedied in the following ways

Shed some weight

Sometimes, snoring is a warning sign of obesity. Losing weight will help reduce the tissues blocking the airways that cause snoring. You can lose weight by reducing the amount of calories you take, changing to a healthier diet, and regular exercising.

Change sleeping positions

If you normally sleep on your back or face down, you can try laying on your side instead to reduce snoring. This is because laying on your back sometimes causes the tongue to block the airways making you snore. You can also try elevating your head 4-inches higher to further clear the airways for ample breathing.

Avoid alcohol and sedatives before bed

Do not drink alcohol an hour before bed as it relaxes the throat muscles causing snoring. Also, if you snore and take sedatives, you may want to see your doctor about what other options can be made available.

Quit smoking

Not only is smoking an unhealthy habit, it can further increase your snoring problem. See a health practitioner to discuss other replacements like gum, smoke patches, and other options.

Get enough sleep

Sleep deprivation is another cause of snoring. Make sure you get the recommended seven to eight hours of sleep every night.

Finally, you can seek other medical ways if the problem further persists like nasal strips or dilators, nose construction, and other means. Talk to your doctor about it.
