An Amazon employee in Seattle has tested positive for the COVID-19 coronavirus according to reports. The company sent an email to its staff in the Seattle area saying it learned that an employee in one of its South Lake Union buildings tested positive for the deadly disease.
In a tweet, New York Times’ Seattle Tech correspondent, Karen Weise revealed:
Just confirmed that Amazon emailed its staff in the Seattle area this afternoon saying it learned that an employee in one of its South Lake Union bldgs tested positive for the coronavirus.

“The employee went home feeling unwell on Tuesday, February 25 and has not entered Amazon offices since that time,” the email said.
“We are supporting the affected employee, who remains in quarantine,” an Amazon spokesperson added.
An internal memo sent out to Amazon employees identifies the employee as based out of the company’s “Brazil” (SEA53) building.

The spokesperson also confirmed a report by Bloomberg News that all co-workers that have been in contact with the employee, who worked at Amazon’s South Lake Union office complex in Seattle, had been informed.
“We notified the employees who we know were in close contact with this employee,” the memo continues. “The risk of transmission for employees who were not in close contact with this individual is assessed to be low,” the notification adds.
Amazon asks employees experiencing symptoms to self-quarantine and seek medical attention
The e-commerce giants also asked employees experiencing symptoms to stay home and seek medical attention.
This week, Amazon had confirmed that two of its employees in Italy had contracted the virus and were in quarantine. The company had previously told its close to 800,000 employees to halt non-essential travel within the US and elsewhere.
A Google employee in Switzerland had also earlier tested positive for coronavirus.
