WhatsApp Will Soon Allow Chat History Transfers Between Android & iOS

WhatsApp will soon allow users to transfer their chat history between iOS and Android. This is a nice feature as users wouldn’t need to have downloaded their chat backup when switching smartphones.

This cool feature was announced at Samsung’s launch event yesterday. The company’s flagship foldable Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 are eligible. Other Samsung phones “in the coming weeks” can access this feature.

All of the data transferred includes all photos, voice notes, and chats. “Your WhatsApp messages belong to you,” said Sandeep Paruchuri, product manager at WhatsApp.

WhatsApp just made it easy to switch between iOS and Android

“We’re excited for the first time to make it easy for people to securely transfer their WhatsApp history from one operating system to another.

Availability for other smartphones from other brands is not yet known, eventually in the coming months. For Samsung phones, this chat history transfer works with a physical Lightning to USB-C cable.

The company seems to have taken a leaf from Google Pixel’s transfer strategy. Google in its initial Pixel shipping box included a Lightning to USB-C cable. This easily transfers your entire files and apps from iOS to its pixels.

WhatsApp recently rolled out a public update that allows users to join group calls after they start.

The Facebook-owned company announced this new update. It’s now testing encrypted cloud on the Android platform.

The messaging application already offers end-to-end messages encryption, so third parties cannot view them.

Whatsapp new join group calls

There’s a new call information screen that shows you are about to join a call. This shows which people are on the call, who was invited and hasn’t joined yet.

Users can also decide to decline the call by clicking on the Ignore button and maybe join later from the call tab.

“This has been one of our most requested features from users for years and we worked together with operating systems and device manufacturers to solve it,” said Paruchuri.

WhatsApp’s new chat transfer feature solves an annoying data backup for Android and iOS. WhatsApp Backup is saved in either Google Drive or iCloud. Users can’t get their backed-up files once they switch to another OS.
