WhatsApp working on a feature that lets you edit sent messages

WhatsApp is working on a feature that lets you edit messages after you have sent them and it is just what users want. When it eventually rolls out the feature, it will join Telegram as one of the mainstream chat platforms that allow this.

As always, the revelation came from the WABetaInfo page where it was discovered that WhatsApp beta Android users could already access the feature. However, there is no mention of when regular users are to expect the feature to be available for them.

In fact, since the company is yet to announce it, the feature could later be shelved. But, if it isn’t, then, you can say bye bye to those annoying autocorrect errors.

Also, it is worth noting that WhatsApp had once tried an edit feature some years ago but it seems they gave up on the idea for whatever reason.

Unlike Twitter, which seemingly has a beef with the edit function, WhatsApp belongs to Facebook suite of apps and many of them have edit features. Likely, we could see the edit function on Messenger as well if the WhatsApp test phase is a success.

From the screenshot above, the edit feature is accessible after you long tap on a message you sent and tap on the three vertical dots at the right corner of your screen for more options. It is not yet clear if the other party can see a label that the message was edited as well as its edit history. Also, will it be available on group chats?

WhatsApp will have to confirm that it plans to finish work on the feature before we get answers.
