Buick is moving to become an electric vehicle-only company and has announced a couple of changes to that effect. In high hopes, the firm says that its first EV will hit the market in 2024.

Owned by General Motors, Buick was founded over 100 years ago in 1899 and later established itself as a luxury brand in North American market. However, in recent years, its main market has become China.

By 2030, Buick says it will be selling only electric cars and its name is changing to “Electra,” a name it used for one of its vehicles in the 1950s. The company’s first EV is a concept car called “Wildcat” and its mockup shows an updated logo.

With Buick entering the electric car industry, it means that the entirety of General Motors subsidiaries have now announced their electrification plans.

In a statement by Duncan Aldred, the vice president of Buick, he confirmed the company’s vision. “The Buick brand is committed to an all-electric future by the end of this decade. Buick’s new logo, use of the Electra naming series and a new design look for our future products will transform the brand,” he said.

According to photos of Buick Wildcat, it looks like the car will feature feline-like sleekness and other designs. This is part of the 35 billion dollar-plan that General Motors unveiled in 2021 and among its larger plan of becoming carbon neutral by 2040.
