Twitter is testing Notes, a longform blogging feature

Twitter Notes is a feature that will let users write longer pieces on the app and even add media in-between like a blog post.

The company made the announcement via a thread that comes with a GIF of how the feature will work when it is live.

Twitter said that it began testing the feature by making it available to a ‘small group of writers.’ The most interesting part is that what they write can be read by Twitter users and even people who are not on the platform.

In the thread created under the original Tweet above, the company is sharing what the writers have come up with so far. Although it claimed that users could already start reading the Notes in ‘most countries,’ it seems that it is not yet available on Twitter for web.

When you try accessing it from the web in some regions, you get the feedback that the page doesn’t exist. However, it works fine when you open the link from the mobile app.

With this new way to bypass the 280 characters limit on Twitter, threads may become the first casualty of this advancement. Also, with its newsletter feature struggling to take off, Twitter Notes may just put the final nail in its coffin.

There are several reasons why users will embrace the Notes feature, and the company itself will benefit greatly. The feature gives it an edge to compete with the likes of Facebook and LinkedIn, which already allow 63,206 and 3,000 characters, respectively.
