The Weeknd has taken his beef against the Recording academy to another level. The Canadian singer will no longer allow his label to submit his music to the Grammys.
“Because of the secret committees, I will no longer allow my label to submit my music to the Grammys,” He said in a statement to the New York Times.
In November 2020, The Weeknd took to Twitter to accuse the Recording Academy of corruption and lack of transparency.
His certified platinum single “Blinding Lights” spent a record-breaking 43 weeks in the Top 5 and the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. However, it failed to drum up any thumbs-up from the Grammys’ voting committee.

Harvey Mason Jr., the academy’s interim chief executive, said the organization is dedicated to improving itself.
“We’re all disappointed when anyone is upset,” Mason said in response to the Weeknd’s statement. “But I will say that we are constantly evolving. And this year, as in past years, we are going to take a hard look at how to improve our awards process, including the nomination review committees.”
The Weeknd joins a growing list of stars, like Drake, and Zayn Malik who has publicly slammed the Recording Academy.
The Grammy Awards, hosted by Trevor Noah, will air next Sunday, 14th March, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on CBS Television Network and Paramount+.
