Zayn Malik is speaking out against the Recording Academy a few days to the Grammy awards. On Tuesday, 9th March, Zayn shared a scathing tweet in which he seemingly alluded to the Grammy Awards being rigged.
See tweet below
F**k the grammys and everyone associated. Unless you shake hands and send gifts, there’s no nomination considerations. Next year I’ll send you a basket of confectionary.

Hours after his initial Twitter post, the singer followed up with a second tweet
My tweet was not personal or about eligibility but was about the need for inclusion and the lack of transparency of the nomination process and the space that creates and allows favoritism, racism, and netwokring politics to influence the voting process

Though it is unclear what sparked Malik’s Twitter reaction days ahead of Sunday’s award show, Malik has released three solo albums outside of his work with One Direction and been nominated once alongside Taylor Swift for their duet, “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever.”
His latest album, “Nobody Is Listening”, was not eligible for consideration this award cycle because it was released in January, five months after the eligibility period ended on 31st August and two months after Grammy nominations were announced in November.

Malik is among many musicians who have criticised the Recording Academy and its selection process, including The Weeknd, Drake, and Halsey.
In November 2020, The Weeknd on his part also took to Twitter stating that the Recording Academy is corrupt and lacks transparency as he did not receive any nod despite the commercial success of his recent album, “After Hours” and his singles “Blinding Lights” and “Heartless”.
The Grammy Awards, hosted by Trevor Noah, will air next Sunday, 14th March, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on CBS Television Network and Paramount+.
