New York City has ordered a handful of 184 electric Ford Mach-E for its public service departments. These new electric vehicles would be used by its law enforcement and emergency response departments.

Interestingly, this new order shows the city’s commitment to buy more than 1,250 electric vehicles in 2022 and ultimately going fult electric in 2035. All ordered vehicles are the GT models with 270 miles of range and almost 27 cubic feet of storage.

The delivery timeline for this new order is June 30 2022, a slice of the 5 years $11.5 million contract with Ford. Keith Kerman, NYC chief fleet officer, said in a statement,

“This order of all-electric Mach-Es will enable our law enforcement agencies to put electric models to the full test and work out maintenance, lights and sirens, charging, and other operational issues. It is a critical step towards our goal of a fully electric fleet.”

Even the head of the mayor’s office on climate, Ben Furnas had this to say about the Mach-E order. “Every single City vehicle we electrify is one step forward to advance clean air and a climate-friendly New York City.”

Also, the MACH-Es would also service the likes of the Departmet of Correction, the Police department, and Sheriff’s Office. The Environmental Protection, Parks and Recreation and other departments are not left out.

Ford’s Mustang Mach-E has also joined New York City bright yellow taxis after, EV startup Gravity gained a license to operate and manage the electric vehicles. Tesla already has its Model 3 used for taxis and uber around the United States.

Even Rental company Hertz made an order for 100K Model 3, the highest by another individual company. Gravity is looking to increase its electric vehicle platform for the yellow taxis. The company will be adding a fleet of 50 combined Mustang Mach-Es and Tesla Model Ys.

This car hopefully transits more Americans to electric vehicles. Ford’s decision to use the prestigious “Mustang” name is a gamble that’s paying off. This vehicle only shares little details with its gas-powered Mustang line.
