This new Uber update could make it harder for you to get rides

Uber says that it is bringing an update that will enable its drivers to see destinations and pricing before accepting rides. Here is why this could be bad for riders and good for drivers.

Traditionally, Uber drivers can only see the destination and fare for a client after they accept the ride. As a result, many drivers have had to cancel if they don’t want to complete the ride. Other times, it is a battle of will between both parties as they are each reluctant to cancel in such situations.

This is about to change in 24 US cities, according to an Automotive News report.

Like California Uber drivers who have had the option since 2020, some other drivers will also see where their potential customer is going and how much they are willing to pay for it. Obviously, this is an advantage for drivers because they can now decide whether a trip is worth the effort or not. Also, many reports suggest that it is an attempt to get more drivers to join the ride-hailing platform.

However, you have to worry about drivers canceling trips on whims, making it difficult for you to get a ride.

Unsurprisingly, Uber has attempted to address this concern with a statement that the initial rollout of the feature in California did not cause ‘ride discrimination.’ In addition to this, it is improving its payment formula for short tips and giving riders further incentive to fulfill requests as opposed to rejecting them.

Likely, the 24 cities will be a larger experiment sample for a global rollout. If there are no issues with it, Uber drivers near you could be getting this feature soon.
