Microsoft has issued a fix for its Android Microsoft Teams causing 911 bug, after reports of several complaints.  Google responded to a Reddit user, who first reported the issue saying that it’s an “unintended interaction” between the Teams app and the Android operating system.

However, this 911 calling bug only affects Android devices running Android 10 or later. Regardless Google prompts everyone regardless of their Android OS to update to the latest version of the App.

The 1416/1.0.0.2021194504 version of the app now resolves the 911 bug. So what exactly was causing the bug? The PhoneAccount class in the Android Operating system allows apps to take and receive calls was creating some profiles when the Teams app was accessed.

Microsoft now has a stand-alone Teams Essentials app for small businesses, this differs heavily from the Teams app available for the public. This app has a monthly subscription fee of $4 and doesn’t have the Office apps bundles of the Teams app.

The small business app will be focusing more on simple chats, meetings and video calls. surprisingly, it’s just a dollar cheaper than Microsoft’s 365 Business Basic plan at $5.

Another difference between the Teams Essentials app and the business basic plan lies in cloud storage and functionality.

Also, the Essentials lack the premium of breakout rooms, real-time translation, meeting recording and transcripts functionality. Instead of using Zoom for video calls, Slack for group chats and Google’s Workspace for email and calendar.

Microsoft is pushing hard to get some of the market shares of the remote work industry. Small businesses will be relying on communicating and working on the go with its affordable new app.

Microsoft swift update to fix the 911 bug is really applauded, once users update their apps they can call 911 effectively. So pick your phones and update your Teams App to avoid any 911 failure.
