Microsoft lead technician Alex Kipman resigns over misconduct allegations

Alex Kipman is regarded as one of Microsoft’s top technical engineers and he was in charge of the HoloLens AR headset. Before that, he was also the lead technician on the Kinect motion controller for Xbox project.

This is a fallout of the damning Insider report about Alex Kipman’s reputation at Microsoft. The article mentions different employees saying that the engineer had a reputation of misconduct and male workers were intimated to never leave a female colleague alone in the same room with him.

They mentioned inappropriate touching and one time that he watched ‘lewd’ VR content in from of other employees in the office.

One former employee was even relieved when the COVID-19 lockdown measures forced them to work remotely. “The best thing that happened, sadly, was the pandemic. So we never had to interact with him in person,” they said.

While Microsoft has not acknowledged the news, many sources confirm that Kipman was forced to resign after dozens of colleagues accused him of misconduct and inappropriate behaviour.

Geekwire claims that it obtained an internal email where Scott Guthrie, the head of Microsoft cloud division, told employees about letting Kipman leave. “We have mutually decided that this is the right time for him to leave the company to pursue other opportunities,” part of the alleged memo read.

Also, while the circular did not mention the disgraced technician’s misconduct allegations, it adds that he is not leaving immediately. Instead, he would stay on for about two months to work on a seamless transition as the AR division is an important aspect of Microsoft’s future plans.
