You are using social media wrong – Mark Zuckerberg says

Scrolling through Reels or video after video on TikTok is not the right way to use social media, or so does Mark Zuckerberg (and several other experts) think.

With the algorithms working overtime to force more content down our throat, it is kind of shocking to hear the Facebook creator say this. It is understandable when it comes from outside experts, but from the person making it?

During a sit down with podcast superstar Joe Rogan, Zuckerberg said that he wishes users would stick to the primary purpose of social media; connecting with others.

“If you’re just sitting there and consuming stuff, I mean, it’s not necessarily bad, but it generally isn’t associated with all the positive benefits you get from being actively engaged or building relationships,” he told Rogan.

Given his statement, it is not clear if the tech billionaire is talking out of both sides of his mouth or if he is being forced to give people what they want in terms of more media content like Reels and Status.

However, one healthy way to use these media features is to react and not just mindlessly scrolling through them when you have nothing better to do.

Experts and analysts have associated such actions as the source of anxiety, disappointment and dissociation. This feeling is something that Mark Zuckerberg says he would try to alienate from the coming metaverse creation.

“I don’t necessarily want the people to spend more time with computers. I just want the time that people spend with screens to be better,” he claimed.

In addition to this, Meta is also working hard on spreading positivity on the virtual world by not amplifying negative things like an angry reaction.

So, what do you think about Zuckerberg’s opinion on how you use social media? Are you using it wrongly and is it about time you changed your habit?
