How To Mute Words And Hashtags On Twitter (Both Mobile App And Web)

Twitter is one of the most widely used social media apps and due to this, there is a barrage of information. Many of the things you come across on Twitter may not be what you like, hence, we provide steps on how to mute words and hashtags on the platform.

The mute option helps users on Twitter control the terms that they see on their Timeline. Different people may have differing reasons for not wanting to see certain things online. With mute, you don’t have to block users, you can just mute words or even mute the accounts.

However, muting accounts is different from muting words and hashtags. Also, when you mute words and hashtags, you will not see them on your notifications and Home timeline. But, you will still see these Tweets via search.

Additionally, it is case-insensitive. This means that if you mute ‘COVID-19’ for example, you will also not be seeing ‘covid-19’ as well. When you mute a word, the hashtag is also automatically muted. So you don’t have to mute ‘COVID-19’ and then mute ‘#COVID-19’ again.
