Recently, the issue of the role money plays in relationships has been trending on Social media.

Popular OAP Toke Makinwa had dropped a tweet which she has now deleted stating that men should date within their tax bracket.

Simply put, Men should go for women they can afford, and stop complaining women are gold diggers all the time.

“This is for the guys. Pls date within your tax bracket and save us all the stories that touch.

Stop calling women gold diggers, olosho and the likes, some of you don’t even have the gold sef.” She tweeted.

Well, her tweet did not go down well with a lot of social media users who felt that the celebrity is making it seem as though relationships are strictly transactional.

Singer Danny Young took to Instagram to call out Toke Makinwa stating that she is misleading women.

Years ago, the term “Gold Digger” was coined when wealthy older men marry younger women who accept not because of love but because of the better life these older men promise.

But now, the term Gold Digger is all over social media with young men stating that ladies now take relationships as an escape route out of poverty.

The ladies, on the other hand, feel that the men are slacking on their part and no longer provide for the woman in their lives.

What is your take on the issue? Is money a must in relationships and has relationships become transactional.
