The saying a silver lining in every dark could not be any truer for these two families living as neighbors in suburban Los Angeles.

Even in this thick dark cloud that is Coronavirus, it has helped the Njoten and Strom family who’d no idea their roots are intertwined, connect.

Erik and Jen Strom and their 4-year-old daughter live four houses away from their neighbors Kjetil and Zoe Njoten and their 10yr old son.

They (the Njotens) had moved there from California without any idea COVID-19 was going to change the world.

While both families exchanged casual pleasantries, the never really got to know themselves.

However, that changed when their neighborhood organized an impromptu gathering, social-distance style. While conversing, the Njotens and Stroms realized they were actually connected by their deep-rooted Norwegian backgrounds.

Jen had been looking for her husband who comes from a very small mysterious island in Norway.

She mentioned it to Njotens and they realize Jen’s family comes from a town in Norway located just a few hours away from where Kjetil grew up.

“Wouldn’t it be even crazier if we were somehow related?!” Erik remarked. Kjetil responded ” No way, it cannot. This place is just so small its never going to happen”

Turns out, it did happen. Both Erik and Kjetil come from the tiny Island of Njoten, which is host to about a couple dozen people.

They go on to discover they don’t just come from the same island, they are are also cousins! Yes, they both share the same great grandfather. What really are the odds?

They’re both now looking forward to sharing the first hug after this coronavirus pandemic is over given that the virus doesn’t care if cousins just discovered themselves or not.

But, have you talked to your neighbor today? you just may be surprised what you’ll learn.
