The biggest award ceremony in the music industry, Grammys has postponed its 2021 edition due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
This year’s ceremony has now been moved to March 14th due to the rising numbers of infections in Los Angeles and California.
The event was previously billed to hold on January 31st. The official statement read;
“The deteriorating COVID situation in Los Angeles, with hospital services being overwhelmed, ICUs having reached capacity, and new guidance from state and local governments have all led us to conclude that postponing our show was the right thing to do. Nothing is more important than the health and safety of those in our music community and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly on producing the show.”
The statement was signed by Harvey Mason, Jr., chair and interim president and CEO of the Recording Academy
“We want to thank all of the talented artists, the staff, our vendors. And especially this year’s nominees for their understanding, patience, and willingness to work with us as we navigate these unprecedented times.” the statement added.
However, it’s unclear if Trevor Noah will still host this year’s edition.

Meanwhile, the new date clashes with the earlier annouced date for the Screen Actors’ Guild awards. The actors union said it was “extremely disappointed” by the conflict in schedules.
“We announced the same date for the SAG Awards last July. With the intent to give the greatest possible scheduling consideration for other awards shows”. It said in a statement. “We expect the same consideration from sister organizations throughout the industry.”
They also added they’re in talks with the Academy to resolve the clash in dates.
Some of the top nominees for the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards include Burna Boy, Beyoncé, Dua Lipa, Roddy Ricch, and Taylor Swift.
