Co-founder of eCommerce giant, Alibaba, Joe Tsai and his wife Clara Wu Tsai, has donated millions of protective gear including masks and ventilators to the US.

2.6 million masks, 170,000 goggles, and 2000 ventilators were sent to New York in total.

Joe Tsai’s donation will help curb the spread of the coronavirus in New York, which is the US epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic. It will also improve the hospitals and clinics fighting the virus.

The shipments arrived at the Newark Liberty International Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport on 4th March 2020.

New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo acknowledged the donations during a coronavirus briefing.

“I want to thank Joe Tsai, and Clara Tsai, and Jack Ma from Alibaba. This is a big deal and it’s going to make a significant difference for us,” Cuomo said during a Saturday briefing.

Hospitals in New York and across the US are in dire need of ventilators, masks, and other protective gear. The inadequacy of protective gear is putting the lives of the healthcare workers in peril.

Thus, wealthy individuals, big corporations and the government have in recent weeks been supplying the much-needed equipment.
