Youtube couple Akah Nnani and Claire Idera recently posted a candid and even sensitive conversation they had over their new baby’s br*astfeeding and it’s sparked off a conversation on social media.
The YouTubers had their first child, a baby girl two months ago. In the video which was filmed while the couple ate dinner, they both discussed how they could increase br*ast milk for their baby.
Claire expressed how pressure from Akah to stock their fridge full with one year’s supply of milk was affecting her mental health. While Akah insisted that they were both in it together, Claire told him he could only feel her pain and stress in the way he imagines it since he’s a man.

The video has since sparked off reactions on social media and possibly not in the way the couple expected. Akah has since being slammed for being pushy and not properly communicating with his wife who’s already dealing with the pressures of being a new mum.

That Akah video is (sadly) how a lot of us guys talk, we think we are helping by using words that show inclusiveness, but reality is – we aren’t.
Best to empathize with your babe and actively seek to DO something that eases her. Actions do speak louder.

Claire: You can’t pump for me, you’re saying we but it’s just me
Akah: In my mind it’s we, you’re breastfeeding this child but it’s us together we’re a team

I learnt alot from Claire and Akah’s video. It validated my belief that a man can never be an ally. You can never truly understand the inner workings of a woman. If you want to make her happy, just listen to her and act accordingly.
You know nothing

Few minutes into Akah and Claire’s video and I observed that while Claire was actually airing her grievances and communicating honestly ,
Akah was busy trying to sell himself as an excellent husband —not to Claire— but to us. He was very Camera conscious.
My observation.

That Akah/Claire video was too difficult to watch. I wanted to slap him through the phone, so I’m upset that I couldn’t.
The caption said “men you need to watch this” but all I could see was a man that doesn’t listen so…..

The way Akah was centering himself in that conversation pissed me off.
“I had a vision that she’ll have b****t milk…”
Go and grow b***s and start pumping then.

Claire was also hailed for being an excellent communicator, navigating an otherwise difficult conversation without erupting midway.
I need to work on my communication skills like that Claire babe tbh , I would have started screaming, cussed you out or just close up immediately. Her voice Dey crack and she still calm like that. Omo

My default mode is to walk out from stressful conversations. Claire is a better woman than I am.

However, most agreed the subject of b****t milk and breastfeeding is a difficult conversation between new couples. The content creators have been hailed for having the courage to share the video, giving pointers to people willing to learn from it.
Akah Nnani and Claire Idera got married in 2019 in a lush Lagos wedding.
The couple welcomed their child, a baby girl two months ago.
