YouTube Will Stop Sending New Video Uploads Emails, To Focus On Push Notifications

In a post on 7th August 2020, the YouTube team at Google has announced that the video-sharing platform will stop sending new video emails to channel subscribers.

According to the official post from the YouTube support team, the emails will officially stop coming on 13th August 2020. The reason for this is simple, many people do not use these email notifications.

In fact, the article says, “Less than 0.1% of these emails are opened, and people have told us that these emails contribute to inbox overload – we hope this change helps you more easily spot and pay attention to the important emails YouTube sends about your account, mandatory service announcements, etc. as no other types of emails are going away.”

This is true as many people just ignore email notifications once they see that it is from YouTube. And, as the statement pointed out, users may miss important emails thinking they are about new video uploads.

However, people who subscribe to channels will still get notified via their mobile YouTube app or via the Chrome browser on their desktop. It is important to note that this only works when you turn on notifications for YouTube.

Creators on the platform are also in support of this new change. According to a survey, the agreeing statement is that they didn’t see any impact on watch time when they experimentally turned off emails. Additionally, they said, “when we don’t send these emails, more people engage with mobile push notifications and their Subscriptions feed.”

Thus, YouTube is working on decongesting your emails to enable you to spot important ones at a single glance.
