Twitter CEO, Jack Dorsey has put up his first tweet for sale after listing it as a unique digital signature on a website for selling tweets. The website will help to sell tweets as non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
“just setting up my twttr”, Dorsey’s very first tweet was put up in March 2006. The tweet received offers that went as high as $88,888.88 within minutes of its posting. Dorsey tweeted a link to the listing on ‘Valuables by Cent’ – a tweets marketplace.

There were old offers for the tweet that suggest that it was put for sale in December 2020. However, the listing garnered more attention after Dorsey’s tweeted it on 5th March 2021.
NFTs are digital files that serve as digital signatures and certifies who owns photos, videos, and other online media. As of yesterday, the highest bid for the tweet was $ $2 million at 04:47 GMT on Saturday 6th March 2021.
Cryptocurrency pioneer Justin Sun made the $2 million bid. “I have updated my offer to 2 million USD,” Sun tweeted.
The buyer will receive a certificate, which will be digitally signed and verified by Dorsey. They’ll also get the metadata of the original tweet. The metadata includes information such as the time the tweet was posted and its text contents.
According to Valuables, buying tweets can be compared to buying an autographed baseball card. “There is only one unique signed version of the tweet, and if the creator agrees to sell, you can own it forever”.
