Top 10 Tech Expectations For The Year 2020

In the proceeding parts of this article, you will come across some tech expectations for 2020 that are borderline ‘too futuristic’. However, some are realistic as well. But whatever the case, we believe that if it is conceivable, it is doable. Let us start with the one that is already in the process of actualization.

1. 5G technology

While you complain about the internet speed in your locality, some people cannot just relate. But they are too few. For example, workers at the National Aeronautical and Space Administration (NASA) base will not know what a slow internet means. Why? Well, it is because it has an internet speed of approximately 91 Gigabytes per second.

However, this is just one location. In fact, South Korea, Singapore, Latvia and even the United Kingdom generally have faster mobile internet speeds than the United States. With South Korea’s mobile internet speed of 18.5 Megabytes per second, it will be left in the dust if 5G services were available in other places. It is proposed to bring about a connection speed of 300 Megabytes per second.

With this speed, imagine how much you can achieve in the twinkle of an eye. It may come with some health hazards, however. So, authorities should look into this.

2. An iPhone 12 (with unbelievable specs)

We all expect a successor to soon dethrone the current Apple iPhones. One tech expectation of 2020 will definitely be specs of the coming iPhone. Most likely, it will be the iPhone 12. You surely have some in mind already but imagine it has a better camera. Photos so clear it feels you can smell the jollof rice in Lagos all the way from Moscow.

Faster charging with batteries that will run all day and not go flat. It may take longer than a year to make but who is to say it will not one day come?

3. More widespread electric and auto-drive cars

Electric and self-driven cars are already available in the market. Some companies are already pushing the boundaries of electric vehicles. But, despite their efforts, the cost seems to remain a limiting factor. In 2020, do you expect these clean energy vehicles to be as available as the Toyota Camry you see every day?

Someday we will all be using electric cars and breathing cleaner air in a healthier world. Our current common cars would be relics of old when this happens.

4. Wearable health devices

Many are of the opinion that the tech industry is not as invested in health as they should be. We subscribe to this same school of thought. There are still deadly diseases killing people in our ‘modern world’. What is science if not to make us have a better life?

One of our tech expectations for 2020 is health monitoring devices. Small comfortable devices that people can wear and not check only their vitals but also some diseases that may stay undetected during routine check-ups.

5. AI (with movable parts)

There is the joke of a smartphone owner telling it to charge itself if it is so smart. Well, we expect that the next level of Artificial Intelligence (AI) engineers put into consideration the fact that devices should be able to perform some basic operations. Of course, work in robotics is exploring this theme but we are clamoring for AI that not just know what to do, but does it.

6. Tighter security measures online

Hackers have been having filled days exploiting security lapses online. In some cases, users are generally careless or lax with their login details but in other cases, it is the firms that are responsible. If these trends are not checkmated, soon, more funds would be stolen from innocent victims.

Blockchain technology is doing well in this regard to secure funds and payments. We hope by 2020 it is more widely used. However, social media companies too should step up their game. Things that cannot be faked should be used as a means of identity more than just passwords.

7. Extended reality

Wikipedia defines Extended reality (XR) as the combination of augmented reality, virtual reality and mixed reality. In simple words, extended reality seeks to make you feel something via computer-generated technology.

You have heard the term that experience is the best teacher. It is harder to forget an experience than it is to forget what you read, saw or heard. By next year, we expect that more people experience movies than watch them and the same goes for video games. Imagination can only take you so far but we hope that with high-end extended reality tech, we don’t even have to task our imagination.

8. More wireless gadgets

Chords limit us. That is the plain truth. It is why people prefer using chargers with longer chords so they can use their devices from more comfortable locations. With more wireless devices, our comfort will be assured. Imagine what you were doing all your life before getting wireless headphones. What of a wireless mouse? The possibilities are endless.

9. More public Wi-Fis

In developing countries like Nigeria, the cost of data is a challenge. It is why many are apprehensive about the coming 5G technology. What if you do not have to pay for your data anymore? Watching Instagram videos, streaming matches live from wherever you are, etc.

When 2020 arrives, we hope there are more free networks to connect to.

10. Smart clothes

Recent climate changes are further making the weather unpredictable. You could be out with warm clothes and the weather suddenly heats up (especially people living in the tropic). Sometimes, it may start out as a hot day and when you are out sleeveless and looking dapper it suddenly starts to get cold.

With smart clothes, you don’t even have to prepare for the weather. It will be adaptive to the present environmental conditions.
