According to a box office review company, the remake has already raked in $968.5 million (₦348.7 billion) in revenue. It already beats the original by $60 million (₦21.6 billion) in the cinemas. This is despite the 1994 version getting a higher rating than the remake.

Most of the reviews pretty much gave this film an average or just slightly above. A lot of film critics were not impressed, and this was largely to do with the imagery. The very realistic technology used in making the film made it look more like a documentary.

The original Lion King (1994) ended up raking in $422 million (₦151.9 trillion) in the United States. However, the new remake has made $351 million (₦126.3 trillion) already in only 10 days of release. Globally, the hit film is also raking in massive sales. It has already made $616 million (₦221.8 trillion) beating the cartoon’s $545 million (₦196.2 trillion).

A major reason for the success of this new Lion King could be the casting. The fact that Beyoncé even made an album exclusively dedicated to it drew in fans from across the world. The Lion King: The Gift album had a lot of Nigerian and African influences. It featured Nigerian artistes like Wizkid, Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage and Mr Eazi.

Disney is apparently having a great year this 2019. Its remake of Aladdin was not very impressive to reviewers, but it is doing great nonetheless. It recently passed the $1 billion (₦360 billion) in global sales.

Also surpassing the $1-billion-dollar mark are superhero films, Spider-Man: Far From Home and Captain Marvel. A major success is Avengers: Endgame which recently beat Avatar to become the highest-grossing film of all time.
