Buckingham Palace released an official statement to say The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will no longer carry out any official duties. They also will no longer act in their previous official capacities as members of the Royal family.

“Following conversations with The Duke, The Queen has written confirming that in stepping away from the work of The Royal Family it is not possible to continue with the responsibilities and duties that come with a life of public service,” the statement read.

The couple’s honorary military appointments and royal patronages would be returned to Queen Elizabeth II. They will be redistributed, the statement added.

“While all are saddened by their decision, The Duke and Duchess remain much-loved members of the family,” the statement concluded.

In January 2020, the couple annouced they’re stepping down as members senior members of the British Royal Family, to the shock of many.

In a joint statement on their official Instagram page, the couple wrote;

After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution. We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family. And work to become financially independent while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen.

They also added they’ll continue to work in the patronage of Her Majesty The Queen. However, from the latest statement from Buckingham Palace, it appears that would not be so.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle recently annouced they’re expecting their second child earlier this month.
