OnePlus has informed the public that it deliberately reduced the performance of most popular apps.
The company said it did that to improve battery life on its newest Oneplus 9 and Pro phones. A recent article by Andrei Frumusanu has prompted the china-based technology company to respond to the public. Popular testing tool Geekbench sees the OnePlus approach as “benchmark manipulation”.
It has since removed the OnePlus 9 and Pro from its Andriod benchmark chart.
In a statement addressed to XDA Developers, popular smartphone maker OnePlus insisted the throttling was intended to improve battery life.
“Our top priority is always delivering a great user experience with our products, based in part on acting quickly on important user feedback.”

“Our R&D team has been working over the past few months to optimize the devices’ performances when using many of the most popular app’s processor requirements with most appropriate power.”
“This has helped to provide a smooth experience while reducing power consumption, while this may impact the devices’ performance in some benchmarking apps,”
“Our focus as always is to do what we can to improve the performance of the device for our users.”
In 2013 another popular smartphone maker was caught rigging its benchmark scores like OnePlus. Throttling phones performance only creates an unrealistic rush of Adrenaline, which later dies down after actual real-world usage kicks in.
