Quentin Tarantino’s ninth film, “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood” came in second place this weekend. This makes it the best opening ever for Quentin Tarantino as it makes $40.4 million. It is the best opening weekend the producer has ever had, having topped “Inglorious Bastards” that made $38 million in its first weekend in 2009.

Tarantino has only ever released films with Harvey Weinstein-owned companies. However, on this new project, he worked with Sony. Tarantino’s fans came out to see the film and showed their devoted support.

The film had another thing going on for it. It featured some of the biggest stars in the world. Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt played lead roles in the film. The promotion of the film also based the story around the popular Manson Family and death of actress, Sharon Tate.

“Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood” comes right in time to steal the show on its own. It looks like this film is going to be the major blockbuster in the cinema in August. There is, of course, Universal’s “Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw” coming next weekend. But it will most likely not take the shine off “Once Upon a Time”. Knowing Tarantino fans, they will most likely hit the cinemas all through the screening period.

Tarantino while speaking ahead of the film release said: “I’m going to go to my grave believing that if we make fresh things, there is still an audience for freshness.”

Meanwhile, Disney’s 2019 “The Lion King” raked in an estimated $75.5 million. It is topping the box office for the second weekend in a row with a global income of over $960 million. It is this close to hitting the $1 billion mark. This is interesting for a movie with low reviews and an old but gold storyline.
