A mobile game of Netflix’s hit TV show, “Stranger Things”, is on the way. The thrilling Netflix original drama stars Golden Globe-winning actress Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers. She lives in a small Indiana town based in 1983. It is inspired by a time when tales of science fiction captivated audiences.

The American web series has a 95% rating on Rotten Tomato. The show has been a major crowd pleaser and has gotten great reviews online. Viewers who think they could not get enough of the show before can enjoy more entertainment with the new upcoming game.

The location-based puzzle RPG game is expected to be out in 2020. It is set for release on both Android and iOS devices. Netflix announced this during an E3 panel on 12th June 2019.

The streaming service said it will be partnering with the Finnish game studio, Next Games. Details are, however, yet to be revealed. But the game is expected to feature Google Maps integration. It will allow players to explore The Upside Down while moving around their city.

The Upside Down is an alternate dimension existing in parallel to the human world. It happens to be the title of one of the episodes in the first season of the series.

Netflix’s director of interactive games, Chris Lee said, “No matter where you are at in the world, you can fight and battle against The Upside Down, even in your own backyard. They developed this amazing ’80s, retro, Saturday morning cartoon art style that we’ve absolutely fallen in love with.”

Netflix revealed additional screenshots of the gameplay on the E3 panel.

Stranger Things 3: The Game

It is worthy to note that this is very different from the Stranger Things 3: The Game. This one is slated for release on 4th July 2019. This happens to be the same day the third season of the series comes out on Netflix too.

Meanwhile, Netflix’s Stranger Things 3 video game will be tailored for PlayStation, PC, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox consoles. Netflix partnered with video game developer, BonusXP and the Henson Company on that project.

BonusXP president Dave Pottinger said, “one of the fun parts of taking something so serious as Stranger Things and turning it into a game is we get to latch onto levity and make the most of those moments.”
