So it’s Monday, and you lost a loved one over the weekend. Now you are at work, distressed and disturbed. People grieve differently and sometimes they are unable to deal with work and their emotions, which is understandable. Below are tips to deal with grief while at work.

1. Take a break

You can decide to go to work if it will stop you from thinking too much. The laughter and chit chat from colleagues can take your mind away from the thoughts of your loss. On the other hand, if you feel you can’t handle work with the emotions running through your head, then you will need a casual leave. See your line manager, or let an HR personnel grant you the needed leave.

2. Talk to somebody

“A problem shared is half solved.” You may have someone in your workplace that you are close to. Why not talk to them about your loss? They will be able to cheer you up. You need a sound mind to be active at work, so if your mood is getting in the way, open up to a colleague you feel you can trust.

3. Listen to music

Music isn’t only entertainment; it can also be therapeutic. You can listen to your favourite music while at work, using your earphones of course.
