Microsoft will end support for Internet Explorer 11 across its Microsoft 365 apps and services in 2021. Internet Explorer 11 will no longer be supported for Microsoft’s online services like Office 365, OneDrive, Outlook, and others in August 2021.

The Microsoft Teams web app will also no longer support Internet Explorer 11 from 30th November 2020. The company will, however, continue to allow people to access old sites that were specifically built for Internet Explorer. This ends when Microsoft fully drops support for Internet Explorer 11 within Windows 10.

Microsoft’s strategy will likely be to move users to the new Internet Explorer legacy mode in the Chromium-based Microsoft Edge browser.

The software giant also plans to drop support for the existing legacy version of Microsoft Edge on March 9th, 2021. After the end of its support for the browser, that version of Edge will no longer get security updates.

Microsoft says new devices and future Windows updates will all include the new Edge browser. The company has been moving its Windows 10 users to the new Chromium-based Edge browser.

The Internet Explorer has been the b**t of many geek jokes. Most users allege that the browser is slow and unreliable, its Bing search engine has also been deemed ineffective. The company has over the years tried to replace the browser it refers to as a compatibility solution. Microsoft first unveiled its new Edge browser in 2015, codenamed Project Spartan at the time.
