The police officer, Ope Dolapo, said:

“Dear men, if a lady tells you to send her money for transport to come over and you send her the cash and she decides not to visit you and does not refund the money. You can refer to act 29 SECTION 132 of the criminal code and file a case of defrauding by false pretence against her. She can be jailed for up to 5 years. Know your rights, my brother.”

According to her, it is a criminal offence to take a man’s money when you have no intention of visiting him or fulfiling your part of the bargain.

This Valentine season, a lot of people are looking for love. Some may get gullible and fall into the wrong hands.

So if you have no intention of visiting a man, there is no need of taking or requesting for money or whatever he offers in the first place. For the men, also ensure that you are on the lookout when a lady, especially one you just met, requests for money.

Money shouldn’t be the basis of negotiation in any relationship in the first place. Nevertheless, this is what is happening in present-day dating.

This is the second month of the year, and it is too early to fall prey to such scams. Forewarned is forearmed.
