Instagram was indeed facing outages, but it is fine now

Instagram confirmed that it was indeed facing some outages for some time on Wednesday, May 25, but that the issue was fixed hours later. If you had problems with accessing the media sharing platform, you were not alone.

According to several sources, including NetBlocks, a network disruption tracker, users all over the world had issues opening Instagram. There appeared to be no explanation as to why it was happening because it was not restricted to geographical locations or types of devices.

However, this update is important because it reassures users that there was no problem with their service provider or their phone at the time of the disruption.

Instagram communications lead Seine Kim confirmed the problem later in the day, saying: “Earlier today some people were having trouble accessing Instagram. We resolved the issue as quickly as possible for everyone who was impacted, and we apologize for any inconvenience.”

Some of the issues involved users seeing a screen that told them that they were not logged in when they tried opening the app. Some also encountered blank image post and a “Welcome to Instagram” message, which is for new accounts. There also people that complained about their Feed not loading after seeing some pictures.

After the 2021 Facebook network outage that took down WhatsApp as well, Instagram had promised to add an in-app outage report feature. However, it failed to show this message during this most recent outage. It would have gone a long way in calming nerves and reassuring users.
