The plot appears to be thickening around the controversies surrounding Chinese telecoms firm, Huawei and the West.

The United States had alleged that the company was spying for the Chinese government. Now, Huawei is determined to push back hard by putting the US under pressure to prove the allegations.

According to reports, Huawei is preparing a lawsuit against the U.S. government that could be formally announced later in the week. The details of the lawsuit are still unclear, but this could mean the US would have to reveal high-level security secrets.

The Five Eyes countries, that is, United States, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the UK have alleged that Huawei was a potential national security threat to them. They believe the tech company would use critical 5G infrastructure to the Chinese Government’s advantage.

Reports say top officials from the Five Eyes countries reportedly met in July 2018 to discuss the alleged threat from Huawei’s technologies. The US had since placed embargoes on executive agencies against using telecom equipment made by Huawei and ZTE, thereby, boycotting them.

Huawei is looking to challenge these restrictions.

In January 2019, the U.S. Justice Department announced several charges against Huawei. These include fraud, obstruction of justice and the theft of trade secrets.

Chief Financial Officer and daughter of the founder of Huawei, Meng Wanzhou, was arrested in Canada in December 2018 at the request of the U.S. government for allegedly violating sanctions against Iran.

She also faces extradition to the U.S. in the near future.
