GTBank Sends Five Timely Cybersecurity Tips To Customers

Nigerian Guaranty Trust Bank, also known as GTBank or GTB, has hinted at security threats during the coronavirus lockdown and has sent out cybersecurity and banking tips to customers.

In the mail that it sent to all its customers, the multinational financial institution mentioned that there are criminals who are “taking advantage of the pandemic to try and steal personal details and financial information”. The mail is titled Stay Safe Online, a testament to the fact that many people have resorted to virtual activities at this time.

It opened the message with a warning “beware of suspicious sites”. Further, the bank encourages customers to get verified facts and information on COVID-19 from “well known public health and government authorities”.

Some of the tips GTBank recommended are:

1. To check sources where you get information from. People are to only engage with reputable sources and trust verified facts.

3. If you want to log onto the bank’s internet platform or any other bank, it should be through their “corporate website”. This is important as fraudsters can craft banking platforms to resemble the real thing. This way, any data you enter on this false platform will be stolen.

4. Avoid disclosing important card details to anyone. These details include: PIN, Card number, CVV or USSD pin. Thus, avoid sharing sensitive details both online and in person.

5. While using the ATM, keep a safe distance from the next person in line. In addition, watch that no one is watching over your shoulders.

In this time of economic instability, many are amplifying their cybercriminal skills. This is why it is important to always be on guard and keep cybersecurity tips close to heart.

As you stay at home, stay safe online as well.
