Google has inadvertently announced a new Pixel phone, the Pixel 5A 5G. The tech giant did this by addressing a rumour, which is the same fashion it has announced a lot of recent Pixel phones.

The rumour has stated that Google had canceled the upcoming Pixel 5A 5G entirely. To counter the rumour, a Google spokesperson made the following statement:

“Pixel 5a 5G is not cancelled. It will be available later this year in the U.S. and Japan and announced in line with when last year’s a-series phone was introduced”.

So not only do we know it is coming, we know the timeframe for its release, going by the announcement. Google introduced its 2020’s A-series in August of the same year. However, there are speculations that the phone would be announced at this year’s online-only Google I/O developer conference alongside a lower-cost version of the Pixel Buds.

The rumors say that the Pixel 5A 5G will be similar to the Pixel 4A 5G. Both are lower-end phones with the aim of increasing Google’s market reach by keeping the cost down.

Although the Pixel 5A 5G should be similar in size to the Pixel 4A 5G, with a 6.2-inch FHD+ display, dual rear cameras, and a headphone jack, both phones are not expected to be identical.

Android Central had, citing two independent sources, claimed the Pixel 5A had been canceled. Jon Prosser had also posted a tweet claiming that the cancelation was due to chip shortages. It however seems that the chip shortages are a factor as Google is only planning to release the Pixel 5A 5G in the US and Japan.
