#FreeOlamide: Man Spends Eight Days In Police Custody

A hashtag, #FreeOlamide, has been trending on Twitter all day over a tweet about the arrest of a man named Olamide by the police. Most people think that the Olamide in question is the popular rapper, Olamide Badoo. This is not the case as this is a different Olamide. His full name is Ogundulu Olamide David.

 

Ogundulu Olamide David, who is a graduate of the department of quantity survey in FUTA and staff of CFL Group, has been in police custody for eight days.

 

The police arrested him at his place of work by Lagos State Task Force. He was immediately tagged as a land grabber because he was a part of the team his company sent to execute a project on government land.

His company directed him to work on a site located at Ajah area of Lagos State. This is where the police came to “pick him up” along with everyone else they saw on the site.

 

A Twitter user then took to his page to seek help for his friend, Olamide, who the police task force arrested.

 

 

Other Twitter users later took to the hashtag, tweeting for the release of Olamide. Here are some of the recent tweets.

 

This will definitely not be the first time the Nigerian police has harassed members of the public. There was also a case of the police shooting a man, Kolade Johnson, some months back. Allegedly, the police affirmed to have been looking for some cultists in the area and one officer shot Kolade while trying to clear the crowd.
