Facebook’s Software Development Kit (SDK) was fingered as the reason behind the crash of a number of popular apps and services like Spotify, Pinterest, and Tinder on 10th July 2020. The issue has now been resolved and the apps are now working.

This is the second time this year that Facebook’s SDK is causing apps to crash. Many apps use the SDK to manage users’ log-ins and they do not need to be signed in via Facebook to be affected. The issue however only affected iOS users as there were no reports of the same apps crashing on the Android OS.

A Twitter user tagged Facebook’s engineering team in a post, posting screen recordings of the issue in the complaint.

Facebook posted a statement on its developer’s platform acknowledging the issue. “We are aware and investigating an increase in errors on the iOS SDK which is causing some apps to crash,” the statement read.

Other developers also blame the Facebook SDK for the problems in their app in a GitHub thread.

“Earlier today, a code change triggered crashes for some iOS apps using the Facebook SDK. We identified the issue quickly and resolved it. We apologize for any inconvenience,” Facebook also confirmed in a statement.

The company has resolved the issue and now marks it as ‘resolved’ on the platform.
